Updates from the Bio4Fuels management team

The last 2 – 3 months were eventful due to some key decisions and updates of particular relevance for research implementation towards advanced biofuels and related "sustainable fuels".

These included:
  • In Europe, the decision towards setting targets for sustainable aviation fuels was finally voted on as part of RefuelEU ambitions as part of the "Fit for 55" package. Thus goals of 70% of sustainable aviation have been set, with equivalent ambitions to reduce emissions from the marine sector.
  • This decision was closely followed by a vote in the Norwegian parliament, for which the government was asked to work towards Norway taking a leading position in sustainable transport fuels and increase the production of advanced biofuels.
  • The Norwegian Environmental Agency published its updated report on climate mediation towards 2030 "emissions reduction potential, barriers and possible remedies".

This provides an important basis for our initiative towards our application for the new Centre SusFuels where we our ambition is to address the urgency for drop-in sustainable fuels to impact the 36% of emissions from the transport sector.

Forward looking Norwegian supply industry

As part of a summer conference in the region of Steinkjer, Centre Leader Duncan Akporiaye gave a presentation in a section dedicated to "Technology for a more secure society – the interplay between civil and military sectors with high technology industry development".

The focus was on national supply of sustainable transport fuels. This presentation was followed up by a debate on the topic by among others the Defence Chief and the Ministry of defence.
